Team Maple Leaf Announced!

Last week, we were excited to announce the 2017 Team Canada roster. Today, Dodgeball Canada is proud to reveal the 2017 Team Maple Leaf rosters. The following athletes will also serve as the alternates to Team Canada.

After several months of qualifiers, trials and a National tournament in Halifax that saw over 250 of Canada’s strongest and most passionate dodgeball athletes showcase their talents, the 2017 Team Maple Leaf rosters have been decided. On behalf of dodgeball communities from across the country, we thank everyone for their passion and appreciation for the process and embracing the connections and bridges being built across Canada.

The National Team Selections Committee (NTSC) deliberated in-person on the talent being represented from coast-to-coast and have constructed a men’s and women’s alternate team adhering to the 2017 Team Canada vision, as both programs look to continue with their individual growth and development. Dodgeball Canada would like to thank the following members of the NTSC for their relentless effort, thoughtful consideration, commitment and time they’ve invested to build Team Maple Leaf.

Halifax Regional Qualifier!

Alright ladies and gents…it’s time for you to sign up for the tourney that we’re holding on February 4th! It’s the Regional Qualifier for the Team Canada tournament.

But I’m sure a lot of you are thinking….”But I don’t want to try out for Team Canada…why would I sign up?” I’m not trying out either but that doesn’t mean I can’t or shouldn’t play! In order for a tournament to work and in order for a selection committee to see who our best players are, we need actual dodgeball games to be played and we cannot play them if people haven’t signed up!

It’s $20 to play and $35 to be considered for the regional team. It’s at Armbrae Academy so it’s an easy commute for the most of us. You sign up as an individual and the teams are random so you’ll be playing with and against the best players Halifax has to offer.

“What if I make the regional team? I can’t afford or don’t have the time to travel to play at the National Tournament.” Well you’re in luck! The National Tournament will be held right here in Halifax in April! And if you play in that tournament and are selected for Team Canada, the World Championship is happening in Toronto! So really, you have no reason not to play or not to try out!

You will be required to fill out the following form in order to play as the event is being hosted by Dodgeball Canada – http://www.dodgeballcanada.org/…/HA…/p/76922647/category%3D0

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Nova Scotia Dodgeball – NSD or check out the event page – https://www.facebook.com/events/353682975001036/

We’re hosting the National Championship Tournament!

“We are pleased to announce the selected host cities for the 2017 and 2018 National Championship Tournaments!

On December 16th, our league members were asked to submit an application to host the National Championship Tournament & Tryout for 2017, 2018 & 2019. Dodgeball Canada received expressions of interest from 10 league members across the nation, and in the end, made awards to only 2 of them. A selection committee was formulated consisting of 2 board members (Bethel Lascano & Graeme Morrison), 5 league members (Dodgeball Ottawa, Hammercity Dodgeball, Downtown Dodgeball, Dodgeball PEI and Sarnia Adult Dodgeball League) and 1 Class C Member (Alex Svetlovksy). No applications to host were from the respective provinces of each selection committee member. Their purpose was to critically review and provide scores to ultimately decide the successful applications to host. The committee was also asked to critically assess the selection process itself with hopes to improve the process for the next coming years. On December 28th, the committee met and made a decision.

For 2017, the committee decided to award Nova Scotia Dodgeball with the opportunity to host. Their proposed date is for April of 2017 in the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Exact dates and venue will be confirmed soon.

For 2018, the committee decided to award Dodgeball Winnipeg with the opportunity to host in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

For 2019, the committee decided to defer the selection, suggesting that factors between now and then might result in a significant difference in both the event and the bid process itself.
We are excited to share the responsibility with Nova Scotia Dodgeball and Dodgeball Winnipeg in bringing our nation to Play Together once again as we celebrate dodgeball in Canada!”

The NSD Board is EXTREMELY excited to announce that we have been selected by Dodgeball Canada to host the 2017 national Team Selection Tryout her in Halifax, Nova Scotia!

We know that this will be a very long road to April when we host the best players from across Canada to show their talent, but we are ready for the challenge ahead of us.

We want to thank the selection committee who believed that we could host this event and for allowing us to showcase what Nova Scotia Dodgeball has to offer. We also want to thank every single person who had a hand in helping us with our bid to host: Corey, Steven, Jennifer, Amy, Brogan, George, Spencer, Meghan, Chilli, Lisa, Adam, Jeff, and Joey… THANK YOU!!

NSD believes that this event will not only allow us to showcase this beautiful province to the rest of the dodgeballers across the country; but it will also allow local players, who haven’t had a chance to experience dodgeball at a high skill level, to see what truly competitive dodgeball looks like.

Over the coming weeks we will be looking for sponsors and volunteers in many ways, shapes and forms. Anyone wishing to give us a hand in organizing this event, please message us on Facebook or e-mail us at info@novascotiadodgeball.com.

NSD @ the Halifax Pride Parade

For the second year in a row, Nova Scotia Dodgeball was included in the Halifax Pride Parade. We don’t even have words to describe how it felt being able to march in the parade again this year. We marched for ourselves, our LGBTQ+ players in NSD and the Halifax dodgeball community, our LGBTQ+ community here in Halifax and abroad.

We’d like to thank all of the players and supporters that marched with NSD on Saturday and all of our friends and family that came out to the Parade to watch us. It was truly an honour!

Congrats Team Canada!

Last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, some of the best dodgeball players in the world got together to play head to head for the title of World Champion!

Canada’s Men’s team went into the competition with Gold medals from 2013 & 2014 but the competition was strong and they slipped to third place and came home with a bronze medal. The women played a tough round robin event but barely lost against Malaysia during a tough finals and came in 4th place.

Men’s Finals
Gold – USA
Silver – Malaysia
Bronze – Canada
4th – Australia

Women’s Finals
Gold – USA
Silver – Australia
Bronze – Malaysia
4th – Canada

Although Team Canada didn’t take home the medals they were hoping for, we’re all proud that they represented us to the world of dodgeball. Here’s hoping to gold in Australia in 2016!
